These badass hatchets are a true blend of rugged utility and artistic craftsmanship, designed to be used with grit and determination, yet built with the finesse of a collector’s piece. Every single one is meticulously handmade by Slater himself on his workbench in his garage, a nod to the age-old tradition that some of the finest American products are born in American garages. The Benchmade Hatchet is now a proud member of that legacy.

The process starts with each hatchet head, hand-forged in Ukraine, before making its way to Slater’s doorstep. Once in his hands, he carefully designs and carves each handle from a premium slab of walnut. The handles are then rubbed down with genuine wax, offering protection against the elements and ensuring longevity, while preserving the natural beauty of both the wood and metal.

Every hatchet is truly one of a kind, featuring its own unique character—burned into the handle and carved into the distinct shape of each piece. And, of course, it comes equipped with our signature locker loop cord for easy hanging or added safety while in use.

To keep your Benchmade Hatchet in top shape, regular maintenance is key.

Tip 1: After a few solid uses—or a big trip to the mountains—rub down the entire hatchet, both the head and handle, with Axe Wax. This will protect the walnut and steel from the elements and ensure it’s ready for your next adventure.

Tip 2: Keep that blade sharp! Get to know a sharpening stone—because a sharp hatchet is a hatchet that gets the job done.

Tip 3: Always store it with the leather sheath on when not in use. This will protect the blade from rust and keep it primed for your next swing.
